English
This paper reviews nuclear power's role in India's decarbonisation strategy, targeting expansion from 8 GW to 100 GW by 2047 toward a 2070 net-zero goal. It covers indigenous PHWRs, fast breeder and thorium designs, and SMRs for industrial decarbonisation. Nuclear is framed as low-carbon but faces waste, accident-risk, and high-cost challenges.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
As global disclosure frameworks (ISSB, TCFD) push firms to disclose transition plans, this paper illustrates how a major emerging economy frames nuclear within its net-zero pathway—relevant to transition-finance debates on whether nuclear qualifies as sustainable.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Today India’s nuclear roadmap aims to expand capacity from 8 GW to 100 GW by 2047, developing nuclear power towards its 2070 net zero strategy. It also includes indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors, fast breeder reactors, and thorium based designs, in parallel with new Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for industrial decarbonisation. Although Nuclear power is not classified as renewable because it relies on finite uranium resources, it is considered a low carbon energy source that plays a major role in decarbonisation. It can provide reliable, large scale electricity with very low lifecycle emissions, though challenges include radioactive waste, accident risks, and high construction costs. Living near nuclear plants is generally safe under normal operations, but accidents or poor waste management can pose risks.
