English

This chapter examines how AI-driven tools—machine learning, digital twins, remote sensing, and real-time MRV—can transform carbon accounting beyond retrospective emissions reporting. Grounded in the GHG Protocol and Legitimacy/Stakeholder Theory, it maps the CSRD, IFRS S2, and carbon pricing landscape while flagging data quality, adoption gaps, algorithmic accountability, and cybersecurity challenges.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As ISSB (IFRS S2) and CSRD raise the bar for assurance-ready disclosure, AI-enabled MRV offers a path to real-time, verifiable emissions data. This chapter bridges the gap between disclosure frameworks and the technological infrastructure needed to operationalize them globally.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The integration of carbon accounting and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven environmental monitoring as a transformative framework for corporate climate governance. Grounded in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and informed by Legitimacy Theory and Stakeholder Theory, the analysis explores how organisations can transcend conventional retrospective emissions reporting through the deployment of advanced technologies including Machine Learning, Digital Twins, remote sensing, and real-time Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems. The chapter further addresses the regulatory landscape encompassing CSRD, IFRS S2, and carbon pricing mechanisms, as well as persistent challenges related to data quality, technology adoption disparities, algorithmic accountability, and cybersecurity. Collectively, the findings underscore that achieving credible, equitable, and strategically meaningful carbon disclosure requires not merely technological advancement but a holistic reorientation of governance frameworks toward transparency, accuracy, and long-term climate accountability.
